Matt Greiner, Ashley Farquharson nominated to 2026 Olympic Luge Team

PARK CITY, Utah — USA Luge has announced that two athletes from Park City have been nominated to the Team USA Luge roster for the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympic Games in Italy.
Being nominated to the team isn’t the same as being named to the team. Both are sliders from the Wasatch Luge Club, a Youth Sports Alliance Team.
“Today was unbelievable. The men’s series, all the way back to just making the World Cup team, came right down to the wire. I had the best race of my career today.” Greiner said to USA Luge. “And got the job done when it mattered. It’s literally a dream come true.”
Men’s singles 2026 will mark the first Olympics for Greiner. After a successful career as a Junior, including two Junior World Championship medals, Matt jumped up to the National team last season and has been adjusting well to his new environment. His highlight of the season thus far was his career-best 15th-place finish in Winterberg, Germany, which clinched him an Olympic nomination.
His dad, who is the Principal at Park City’s Silver Summit Academy, is thrilled he earned this nomination for the second and final men’s slot on the 2026 team. Matt laughed in relief as he said in a press conference yesterday that he was happy to tell his parents not to sell those Olympics tickets they’d been holding on to.

Tucker West, from Lake Placid, N.Y., finished in 20th place in the most recent World Cup with a two-run combined time of 1:44.342. To earn a 2026 Olympic nomination, he needed a 16th-place or better. The other path was to finish in front of Greiner. Neither scenario played out for the three-time Olympian and winner of three World Cup gold medals as Greiner placed 15th.

For Farquharson, she’ll slide singles. A 2022 Olympian, she’s been steadily climbing the rankings. After a seemingly endless streak of fourth-place finishes, she finally broke through this season with her first-ever World Cup medal on her home track at the Utah Olympic Park and followed it up the next week with another medal in Lake Placid.

Farquharson told TownLift yesterday that she’s looking forward to competing in the Olympics this time, which will be a more inclusive family experience than during a global pandemic, when it was simply her teammates high-fiving her at the finish line.

She finished the qualification period as the second-ranked U.S. sled, earning her a nomination to the Olympic Team, a fact her family, who own the Clockwork Cafe restaurants in Park City, is proud of. Farquharson is a graduate of Park City High School.

Doubles teams were also nominated, and relay teams will be named during the Games, where Luge is always the first sliding sport of any Winter Olympics.

The lineup for Cortina next month will be officially confirmed by the USOPC in the coming days.
