Construction on US-189 in Provo Canyon prompts regular closures through February

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — Regular closures in Provo Canyon are ahead as construction on the new two-lane northbound section of US-189 continues to progress.

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 7, and lasting through February, the Utah Department of Transportation will conduct ongoing full closures on US-189 from the Wallsburg turn-off to SR-113 in Charleston for controlled blasting and cleanup. These closures will occur each day, Mondays through Thursdays, from 10–10:50 a.m., subject to weather conditions and material availability.

UDOT is urging drivers to be aware of closures and plan accordingly.

The project is widening the last section of US 189 along Deer Creek Reservoir that only has one lane each direction.

Once the northbound lanes are complete, crews will shift traffic onto the new road and begin work on the southbound lanes in the summer of 2026.
