Police Log: Walmart burglaries, juvenile DUI, and deer seen foaming at the mouth

Monday, November 24

Incident: Found Property
The caller reported finding a mountain bike on November 23 on the rail trail where you go under 40 towards Richardsons Flat. 

Incident: Citizen Complaint
A woman was reported bringing a dog bed and dog into the senior center, which is a violation of the posted “no dogs allowed” sign.

Incident: Suspicious
A caller reported that there is a woman who keeps coming and parking in the City Hall parking lot every night at 6:55 p.m. and she has been doing this for about a week. 

Tuesday, November 25

Incident: Vehicle Burglary
Deputies were dispatched on a vehicle burglary on Lillehammer Ln. The caller stated his vehicle was broken sometime throughout the night, and multiple items were taken. The complainant’s debit and credit cards were used at multiple locations in the Salt Lake Valley. It was later found that multiple vehicles in the area had also been gone through, but nothing was taken.

Incident: Theft
Deputies were dispatched to Walmart for a theft in progress. A female had over $300 worth of items in a shopping cart and exited the first set of doors where she was confronted by staff for a receipt. She left the cart full of items and ran out of the store. Deputies circulated the area with no contact. The woman was later identified and charges will be screened through the County Attorney for theft. 

Incident: Drugs/Retail Theft
Deputies were dispatched to Walmart for a theft. After an investigation a male was placed under arrest for retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Wednesday, November 26

Incident: Drugs
Deputies stopped a motorcycle for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, a K9 indication led to a search that revealed methamphetamine and paraphernalia THC were located on the suspect. The suspect was booked into SCSO.

Incident: Traffic Stop
An officer stopped a car which was following another vehicle at a high rate of speed on Kearns Blvd.

Thursday, November 27

Incident: Traffic Stop
An officer cited a driver for going 52 mph in a 35 zone on Kearns Blvd.

Friday, November 28

Incident: Wildlife Problem
A caller reported seeing a deer with crazy eyes that was foaming from the mouth and skipping around crazily. The caller was worried the deer might have rabies.

Incident: Suspicious
An alarm went off in the church by the high school and a caller reported seeing someone climbing out of a window of the church afterwards. 

Saturday, November 29

Incident: Vehicle Burglary
A vehicle burglary was reported after the victim found that several items were taken from his vehicle during the early morning hours of Thanksgiving. Video surveillance captured a related incident. There is currently no suspect information available. The case is closed pending further information.

Incident: Burglary
Deputies responded to the listed address for reports of a past burglary. The victim reported that two e-bikes were stolen from her garage sometime within the past two days. The victim is still looking for serial numbers. This case will be inactive until further information is provided, and there are no suspects at this time. 

Incident: Vehicle Burglary
Deputies responded to a past vehicle burglary. Deputies spoke with the victim and they stated that someone broke into their vehicle on November 26 and stole his passport. There is no video or suspect information at this point.

Incident: Alcohol Offense
Deputies responded to an Attempt to Locate for a reckless driver. Deputies located the vehicle at SR-40 and Mile Marker 4. The driver participated in a Field Sobriety Test and was determined to not be impaired. An open container was located in plain view, and the driver was cited and released.

Incident: Injury Accident
Deputies were dispatched to Promontory Ranch Rd on report of a multi vehicle accident. During the course of the investigations, it was discovered that vehicle #1 had failed to stop at a stop sign and maintain in its lane of travel, colliding with vehicle #2. Deputies gathered the information for all parties involved and provided both parties with driver exchange forms. The driver of vehicle #1 was found not to be impaired.

Incident: DUI
A vehicle was stopped for traffic violations on Ozzy Way. Upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle, Deputies detected the odor of intoxicants emitting from the driver of the vehicle. The driver agreed to perform SFSTs and performed poorly. The driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI and transported to the jail. A vehicle search revealed user amounts of controlled substances.

Incident: Juvenile DUI
While on scene of an injury accident, deputies discovered that a juvenile passenger who had been in an involved vehicle had gone missing from the scene. While searching for the passenger, deputies were advised that an approaching vehicle was the juvenile returning to the scene. Upon making contact with the juvenile driving the vehicle, a strong odor of alcohol was detected. A PBT revealed the positive presence of alcohol. The juvenile driver was placed into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office where Deputies met with the juveniles’ parents. The juvenile was then released to their parents on citation and the vehicle was state tax impounded.

Incident: Drugs
During the traffic stop, deputies discovered that the driver had active warrants.  A search of the suspect vehicle revealed user amounts of narcotics and paraphernalia.  It was also discovered that the passenger had active warrants and user amounts of narcotics. The suspects were booked into SCSO.

Sunday, November 30 

Incident: Wildlife-vehicle collision
A driver reported hitting a deer between Richards Flat and Kearns Blvd.

Incident: Wildlife-vehicle collision
A caller reported that at approximately 7:10 a.m. he hit a deer on the passenger side of his rental car. There was minor damage.
