Police log: Vandalism at City Park ice rink, high-speed pursuit from Coalville to Echo

Monday, December 15
Incident: DUI
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple traffic violations. An investigation revealed the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. During the incident, the subject spit in the face of a deputy. The subject was arrested for DUI and Assault on a Peace Officer in addition to being cited for a traffic violation.
Incident: Disturbing the Peace
A caller at Prospect Avenue reported that there were a group of men out on the deck at the house right across the street from her having a loud party. She said she had asked them to be quiet.

A caller reported their car was hit on Park Avenue.

Incident: Pursuit
Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, but after the vehicle stopped the driver threw something out the passenger window and fled onto I-80 Westbound, accelerating to a high rate of speed. The vehicle exited at mm134, lost control then drove over the edge and ended up in the trees about 200 feet away. The driver fled on foot and was later located and apprehended by the K9 unit.

Thursday, December 18
Incident: Alcohol Offense
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a registration violation. After identifying the driver, it was discovered he required an ignition interlock device in his vehicle, which he did not have. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Summit County Jail.
Incident: DUI
Deputies observed a vehicle fail to obey a traffic control device at the intersection of Ute Blvd and State Road 224. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Bear Cub and State Road 224. The driver had been consuming alcohol and showed signs of intoxication, performing poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies determined the driver was impaired and not safe to operate a motor vehicle. The driver was booked into the Summit County Jail for DUI and traffic violations.

A resident called about a tree that had fallen down and was blocking the road at Three Kings Ct.

Incident: Crim Mischief
The operator of the City Park ice rink at City Park reported the rink was vandalized. Someone had poked a hole in the rink liner. The rink now has to drain so they can patch the hole and refill it.

A Storage Deport worker called in to report huge letters painted on the back side of the building, taking up the entire length.
Incident: Attempt to Locate
A caller reported seeing a heavily intoxicated man and woman get into a vehicle and drive off. Officers were dispatched to locate the vehicle.
Friday, December 19
Incident: Pursuit
While attempting to stop a vehicle with its flashers on that appeared to need help, the driver took off, running a stop sign. The vehicle varied speeds and disregarded lights and sirens. Pursuit went from Coalville Main to Echo and was terminated as they entered I-80 due to weather. The vehicle was spiked and travelled for 3 more miles before a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), a maneuver where a police car intentionally nudges the rear quarter panel of a fleeing vehicle, caused the vehicle to spin out and stop. The driver was arrested for traffic offenses and drug charges.
Incident: Hit and Run
A caller reported that she believes someone hit her vehicle near Kearns Blvd. There was damage on the back passenger door and rear bumper, but no note was left.
Incident: Suspicious
A caller reported two men both drinking alcohol in the park and littering their cigarettes on the ground near Main Street.
Saturday, December 20
Incident: Theft
An ID scanner was reportedly stolen from the door of a bar on Main Street.
Sunday, December 21
Incident: Motorist Assist
Officers helped a motorist stuck in the snow on the road up toward Deer Valley.
Incident: Pedestrian Stop
An officer talked to an individual on Main Street about playing amplified music. They agreed to shut it down for the night.
