Police Log: Christmas vehicle burglaries, multiple DUI arrests

Monday, December 22
Incident: Recovered Stolen Vehicle
Deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle parked at a trailhead. Upon investigation, deputies believed the vehicle had been stolen during the night of December 21 in the Salt Lake Valley and abandoned at the trailhead. They also found and collected evidence believed to be related to another nearby incident. The vehicle was secured and the owner was notified.
Incident: DUI
Deputies initiated a traffic stop on westbound I-80 for multiple violations. Upon contacting the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, deputies observed obvious signs of alcohol-related impairment. The driver was unable to follow instructions during standardized field sobriety tests and was ultimately taken into custody for DUI. Several opened containers were then located during a vehicle inventory. The driver was booked into the Summit County Jail on multiple charges.
Incident: Non-injury accident
A GMC Acadia and a U-haul truck were reported in an accident on Snow Creek Drive. No one was injured.
Tuesday, December 23
Incident: Vehicle Burglary
A resident reported that a wallet and a dash camera had been stolen from their vehicle sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 09:30 a.m. No suspect information was able to be provided and there is no video surveillance of the incident.
Incident: Park Problem
A caller at Round Valley called to complain that parking stalls specifically for the dog park were all full, and the caller stated that there was nobody in the dog park.
Incident: Property Damage
A resident called to complain that people in a nearby household were shooting air soft guns.
Incident: Hit and Run
A caller reported that their car had been hit between 4 and 6 p.m. The vehicle was parked and unoccupied during that time. The car showed “minor dents” to driver’s side rear passenger door.
Wednesday, December 24
Incident: Wildlife Problem
A caller reported a large herd of more than 80 elk near Kearns Blvd, seemed like they were going to cross traffic.
Thursday, December 25
Incident: Vehicle Burglary
A resident called reporting a vehicle burglary that occurred sometime during the night of Christmas Eve. A wallet containing two credit cards and a driver’s license was taken from the unlocked vehicle. Both cards were used in Salt Lake City. There is no suspect info at this time, and there was no surveillance footage in the area.
Friday, December 26
Incident: Vehicle Burglary
Deputies responded to a vehicle burglary on Saddleback Rd. The resident reported that several work-related items were stolen from their unlocked vehicle. No suspect information is available.
Saturday, December 27
Incident: Business Assist
A caller from Main Street reported there’s some bricks coming up on the sidewalk that are causing people to trip.
Incident: Drugs
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. Deputies located on a glass crack pipe in the driver’s front pocket. A probable cause of search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of fentanyl, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. Deputies will also be conducting follow-up investigation on possible stolen items located inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested for drug and traffic related charges. The vehicle was state tax impounded.
Sunday, December 28
Incident: DUI
Deputies observed a vehicle commit multiple traffic violations. Upon making contact with the driver, signs of impairment were observed. The driver performed poorly on SFSTs and was arrested for suspicion of DUI and other charges. The driver was transported to jail without incident.
Incident: Wildlife Problem
A moose was reported on the road heading towards Old Town.
