Park City School District outlines snow day decision process as winter storm approaches

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City School District has issued a notification outlining its school cancellation policy as a winter storm is expected to impact the region Thursday through Sunday.

The district’s decision-making process involves administrators monitoring weather reports from the National Weather Service and receiving road condition updates from snowplow drivers. Local law enforcement and city and county officials also provide reports. The superintendent or their designee decides whether to close schools by 6 a.m., or earlier if possible. If there is no notification, schools are open.

Parents will be notified via email and text about any delays or closures. The district urges parents to keep contact information updated in PowerSchool for accurate notifications. Emergency closure information will also be posted on the district website.

In cases of significant difficulties, a two-hour late start may be implemented, which counts as a full day of instruction without requiring a makeup day. Due to the already shortened Friday schedule, two-hour late starts cannot be implemented on Fridays. If conditions do not improve, the district may opt for a full closure with a makeup day included in the calendar.

The district says parents can make the best decision for their children’s safety and will be considerate of tardiness and absences during weather incidents.

NOAA has issued a winter storm warning for the region starting Thursday and running through Sunday.

After weeks of nothing, atmospheric river could dump 2 feet of snow or more on the Wasatch Mountains
