Park City Mountain Sports Club’s recipe for success: Be simple but not basic

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Mountain Sports Club isn’t new, but they accept new members at any time.
This decades-old, non competitive group is a volunteer outdoor recreation club for adults focused on having fun together, enjoying a wide variety of summer and winter sports, and participating in a broad spectrum of social programs.
Some of the activities on the menu include non-motorized aquatic sports, golf, hiking, mountain and road biking in the warm month, and snowshoeing, uphill skiing, nordic and alpine skiing during the winter.
The PCMSC’s recipe for success may just be their TGIFs, where the club helps with the nominal cost of a member or member family providing a space to host, either in a private home, an outdoor pavilion, or a restaurant, and providing disposable stencils/plates/napkins. Members take it from there, bringing pot luck food and their own drinks. The TGIF gatherings begin promptly at 6 p.m. and end promptly at 8 p.m.
These Friday night’s may sound basic, but the menus are anything but; in fact, the dishes that are cooked, brought, shared, and devoured are so enjoyed that they’ve actually inspired the leadership to think about creating a cookbook. It’s all simple, but not basic.
In the winter, one of the most popular activities is Apres Ski with similarly established administrative parameters, held from 4 to 6 p.m.
The Club’s robust monthly calendar for January includes knit and stitch sessions, skiing at the local resorts, a cat skiing roadtrip in Idaho, mountain biking, and a musical jam session/sing along to the likes of crowd-favorites from the Beatles, Ben E King, Jonny Cash, U2, and The Beatles.
