Park City Curling Club season start, just a stone’s throw away

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Ice Arena plays host to many different sports; that said, no one is having as much fun, arguably, as the participants of the Park City Curling Club.
The new season starts in January, plenty of time to sign up between now and then. There are also the Learn-To-Curl clinics held throughout the year. The December sessions are already sold out, but registration is open, and February slots are still available.
One Club member involved in League play is Cody Adams, a five-year resident of Park City. When asked where he lived before Park City, his answer wasn’t Minnesota or Wisconsin; Adams is from California, not exactly a curling mecca. He’s proving, though, that that has little bearing when it comes to not only his hobby of curling on Monday nights, but his day job working on the ice at the bobsled/skeleton/luge track at the Utah Olympic Park.

“The team camaraderie in curling is solid, it’s simple to get into and easy to enjoy,” Adams told TownLift. “It really doesn’t matter your skill level, what matters more in curling is having fun.”
He serves as both a curler and a sweeper on the team. “I had a good buddy that I met out here a couple of years ago in the winter season who was part of the curling club, and he was teaching lessons for locals. He convinced me to join last season, and that it would be a lot of fun,” Adams told TownLift. “And he was definitely right, it’s a really fun sport.”
“I would say I have a bit of an advantage on ice in curling at night, with being able to comfortably slide around on ice at my job all day.”
The curling season runs from January through March and is known as one of the most cost-effective winter sports. It’s also a great way to meet new people and form friendships.
A fairly equal distribution of men and women curl for City, “at 27, I might just be the youngest person in the League,” he laughs.
The team is excited that there’s now a curling sheet at the Black Rock Resort Ice Arena just outside of Park City, the newest local dedicated ice sheet. “We’ll get a few occasional opportunities to go curl there,” said Adams.
The Park City Curling Club even hosts unique corporate and private events, providing the venue, trained instructors, and equipment.
If people get a league curling team together, they get the naming rights, one of everyone’s favorite parts of the sport at this level. Some of the names currently in play include: Curl’s for the Girls, The Button Bitters, Hack In Black, The Canine Curlers, The Rebel Rockers, and The Ice Otters.
