Hanukkah celebrations light up Historic Main Street

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City’s Historic Main Street will glow with the spirit of Hanukkah this December as Chabad Lubavitch of Park City and the Historic Park City Alliance bring the Festival of Lights to the heart of the community. Two free, family-friendly events promise to fill the mountain town with warmth, light and tradition during the eight-day celebration.

The festivities begin Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 5:30 p.m. with the Giant Menorah Lighting in Miner’s Park. Community members of all backgrounds are invited to gather as the towering menorah is illuminated against the evening sky. The celebration will feature festive music that captures the holiday’s joyful essence, while attendees can savor traditional Hanukkah treats, including crispy latkes and sweet doughnuts. It’s an opportunity for neighbors and visitors alike to experience the ancient tradition of lighting the menorah, which commemorates the miracle of oil that burned for eight days in the rededicated Temple in Jerusalem.

The celebration continues Saturday, Dec. 20, with a spectacle that blends tradition with Park City’s community spirit. The Hanukkah Menorah Car Parade kicks off at 7:30 p.m. from City Park. Decorated vehicles adorned with lights and menorahs will wind their way through town, traveling along Park Avenue before proceeding up Main Street. The procession is scheduled to conclude at Top of Main Brew Pub by 8 p.m., creating a moving display of light on the seventh night of Hanukkah.

These events reflect the collaborative spirit that makes Historic Park City special, which features more than 250 shops, lodges, restaurants, art galleries and cultural venues. The Historic Park City Alliance works year-round to ensure Main Street and the surrounding area remain vibrant gathering places for residents and visitors, supporting business development while enhancing community activities that benefit everyone.

Both Hanukkah celebrations are free and open to the public, embodying the holiday’s themes of light, perseverance and community. Whether you’re looking to introduce your family to Hanukkah traditions, reconnect with your heritage or simply enjoy Park City’s welcoming atmosphere during the holiday season, these events offer meaningful ways to celebrate together.
