South Summit Fire was first notified of the fire at about 8 p.m. Dec. 29. Responders quickly classified it as a “working incident,” a designation that triggered an automatic response from Wasatch Fire, according to the Wasatch Fire Department.
Crews initially knocked down the fire from inside the structure, but it extended upward into the roofline and attic area, officials said. Firefighters faced difficult conditions while trying to access the roof, citing a high vaulted ceiling inside the home and a steep, corrugated metal roof made more hazardous by recent snowfall.
Additional units were requested to help crews reach the roof area and open it up, Wasatch Fire said. The incident was ultimately brought under control, and the cause remains under investigation.
