PARK CITY — As Utah’s winter recreation season ramps up, Basin Recreation is partnering with the Utah Avalanche Center to offer a free avalanche awareness presentation designed for outdoor enthusiasts of all experience levels.
The “Know Before You Go” program will take place Dec. 16 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Trailside Park’s Park Room. The one-hour session aims to introduce participants to avalanche basics without overwhelming them with technical jargon or complex formulas.
Attendees will learn about the destructive power of avalanches, when and why they occur, and how to recreate safely in the mountains while avoiding avalanche terrain.
The presentation marks the first step in avalanche education for many winter backcountry users, including skiers, snowboarders, and snowshoers.
The event is open to all ages and is nearing capacity. Those interested can register through Basin Recreation’s website.
