KEARNS, Utah — Salt Lake Valley’s 2002 and 2034 Long Track Speedshating Venue the Utah Olympic Oval, which is also the Headquarters for USA Speedskating, is hosting the ISA World Cup on November 14, 15, and 16. It’s an athlete qualifying event for this February’s Olympics in Italy.
“In mid November, we’ll have the best athletes in speedskating participating in one of the World Cups, which is also big for the qualifications of the Olympics coming up,” Parkite, and five-time Olympic gold medalist, Eric Heiden told TownLift. “So, you’re going to see the best of the best performing at their best in the best rink in the world, trying to set world records. These athletes will spend a lot of time preparing just for the opportunity to skate in Salt Lake City, to try to set personal records and world records. It’s one of the stops on the World Cup that you do not want to miss.”

Casey Dawson will be competing in an attempt to make his second consecutive Olympic team. The Park City High School alumni was at the Park City Ice Arena to skate with his childhood team of the Park City Speedskating Club this fall at their annual Learn-to-Speedskate free, family event.
While he skated around the rink with the locals, he’d brought his 2022 Beijing Olympic medal for all the kids to touch, much like how he had it at the JANS Winter Welcome fundraiser for YSA last month.
On Thursday, Dawson, who resides in Park City, was walking his dog on the trails he’s grown up with, and told TownLift, “This World Cup in Salt Lake City is kind of a preview to what you’re going to see in Milan. It’s all the top racers in the world coming together. Most of these athlete’s are going to be in Milan racing our Team USA so you get to see the top racers right here in our back yard if you’re not going to be able to make it to Milan to spectate.”
