White Pine Canyon Road closed following gas line break near The Colony

PARK CITY, Utah — White Pine Canyon Road is closed after an excavator struck a major gas line Thursday afternoon, according to the Park City Fire District.

Construction crews reportedly hit a four-inch main gas line near the gate house for The Colony neighborhood. Firefighters and crews from Enbridge Gas are working to clamp the line and stop the gas flow, a process expected to take several hours, according to Assistant Fire Chief Sean Briley.

No gas readings were detected in nearby homes, but crews found elevated levels in the sewer system, which Briley said can create a dangerous buildup of explosive gases. “We’re removing manhole covers and actively trying to ventilate everything,” he said. The department’s top priority is ensuring the area is safe before reopening the road to traffic.

Briley said firefighters are focused on stopping the leak, while permanent repairs to the line will take additional time. He could not yet confirm whether the break will cause any gas service interruptions.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
