Vehicle pulled from Deer Valley Pond; driver rescued

PARK CITY, Utah — At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to the Deer Valley Pond near parking lot #5 on the report of a vehicle that had gone into the water and was reportedly sinking.

Eye witnesses saw the vehicle rolling backwards toward the pond, according to Fire Marshal Mike Owens with the Park City Fire Department. The bystanders saw a female passenger jump from the vehicle, but the driver was trapped in the vehicle when it became completely submerged.

Park City Police Department arrived on scene along with Park City Fire Department. It’s estimated that the woman was trapped in the car for about 10 minutes. It’s unknown for how much of that time she was unconscious, but when crews pulled her out of the vehicle she was unresponsive. CPR was performed until she began breathing on her own.

She was transported by helicopter to a Salt Lake Valley hospital, where she is reportedly in stable condition and under observation.

The Wasatch County Search and Rescue Dive Team responded to assist with removing the vehicle from the water.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
