The sound of the new west: Luke Grimes brings his Western sound to Blue Sky

PARK CITY, Utah – This November, The Lodge at Blue Sky, long known for its open space and understated luxury, will add a new note to its mountain rhythm when actor and musician Luke Grimes performs in The Arena — a transformed riding barn that now hosts some of the Wasatch’s most intimate concerts. The performance reflects the resort’s growing push to blend culture, community, and mountain living.

For Joe Ogdie, General Manager of The Lodge at Blue Sky, this concert isn’t just another luxury event. It’s part of a deeper endeavor — a way of weaving art, landscape, and community into the next chapter of Park City’s cultural life.

“We’ve always been strong in wellness, adventure, and food,” Ogdie said. “But now we’re rounding out that lifestyle with something more cultural — moments that bring people together and remind us why this place feels so special.”

From ranch to living room

Blue Sky has long been defined by its expansive wilderness and elemental luxury. Yet over the past few years, the property has become something of a gathering place for the broader community. Its SmokeWood pop-up dinners, held at the on-site farm every Friday through summer, draw locals and guests alike — chefs, ranchers, families, and travelers sharing cocktails as the sun falls behind the mountains.

“We think of it as a living room on the ranch,” Ogdie said. “These concerts are just a natural extension of that. They’re small, intimate, and deeply rooted in this landscape.”

The LeAnn Rimes performance last fall marked the resort’s first foray into this kind of live music — a test, of sorts, to see if culture could harmonize with Blue Sky’s rhythm. It worked. Guests raved about the intimacy of hearing a world-class voice surrounded by fields and mountain skies. So this year, Blue Sky decided to do it again, this time with Grimes — whose quiet, Western storytelling mirrors the spirit of the place itself.

“Luke embodies everything people imagine when they think of the American West,” Ogdie said. “There’s a rawness and authenticity in his music that just feels right here. It’s not about spectacle — it’s about connection.”

A new cultural rhythm

Ogdie sees this evolving cultural programming as a reflection of Park City’s own transformation. As the town recalibrates after Sundance’s  departure, new forms of artistry and community are surfacing — smaller, more intentional, and more rooted in the local sense of place.

“I think people are looking for experiences that are bespoke and unrepeatable,” he said. “Something you can only feel in a few places. That’s what these concerts are — a few hundred people, in a barn, surrounded by mountains. It’s simple, but it’s magic.”

That sense of collaboration runs deep, too. Blue Sky has built close relationships with local creatives, including Park City Song Summit founders Ben Anderson and Julia Rametta, who are helping reimagine what live music can mean in a mountain town.

“They’ve been amazing partners to bounce ideas off of,” Ogdie said. “We’re learning from each other — how to do music differently, how to make it meaningful.”

Where the West meets the world

As The Arena fills with light and sound on November 1, guests will also savor the last night of SmokeWood’s season — the resort’s wood-fired barbecue pop-up closing out the year with its signature scent of mesquite and slow-roasted brisket.

For Ogdie, the combination of music, food, and mountain air captures everything Blue Sky stands for.

At Blue Sky, the line between luxury and landscape has always been blurred. With concerts like this, Ogdie and his team are giving Park City a new way to listen to itself — one song, one story, one starry night at a time.
