“The Mountains Are Calling”: Basin Rec’s new director takes the helm

PARK CITY, Utah — The Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District (Basin Recreation) announced on Friday that Rob Parrish will be its new District Director, following the planned resignation of Dana Jones.

Parrish, who will officially begin his role on November 10, brings more than 20 years of public service leadership experience to the position and will lead the District into its next chapter of community-centered growth and recreation.

Following a national search, Parrish was selected to step into the role of District Director. He brings a wealth of experience from his time with the National Park Service, where he served in senior leadership roles at Grand Canyon National Park, Steamtown National Historic Site, and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Islands. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Parrish is known for his servant leadership style, strategic vision, and deep commitment to stewardship of public lands.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rob Parrish as the new Director of Basin Recreation,” said Bruce in a statement, Vice Chair of the Administrative Control Board. “Rob’s extensive background in parks, planning, and people-first leadership aligns perfectly with our mission. His experience and energy will help build on the strong foundation Dana leaves behind.”

In his new role, Parrish will oversee strategic planning, infrastructure development, and community engagement to support Basin Recreation’s mission of promoting outdoor access, wellness, and quality of life.

“I’m honored to join the Basin Recreation team and serve the Park City community,” said Parrish in a statement. “There’s a real spirit of connection, wellness, and outdoor access here, and I look forward to learning from the staff, collaborating with the community, and continuing to build on the District’s remarkable success.”

Parrish said in a statement: “To paraphrase John Muir—The mountains are calling, and I must go.”

Jones, who joined Basin Rec in 2020 after nearly three decades with California State Parks, has been a “valued leader during her time with the District.”

“Dana’s leadership has left an indelible mark on the District,” said Bruce in the statement. “She led with heart, integrity, and vision—especially during challenging times. We are deeply grateful for her service and wish her all the best in her next chapter.”
