Ski Jumper Casey Larson retires after 2 Olympics, joins coaching staff in Park City

PARK CITY, Utah — Two-time Olympian Ski Jumper Casey Larson, who grew up jumping in Illinois and representing the Norge Nordic Club, has announced his retirement and joined the coaching staff of the Park City Ski & Snowboard Team.

In this video interview, hear in his own words his thoughts on his past, present, and future.

Tommy Eckfeldt, is the Performance Sports Athletic Director for PCSS  overseeing ski jumping, nordic combined, skimo, and alpine. He told TownLift, “It’s amazing that we have such a well-versed, elite, and stacked staff across our Club. Casey is a fantastic addition to other Olympians that we have coaching our young athletes including Billy Demong, Liz Steven, Ted Ligety, and Steve Nyman. I’m really excited, and the PCSS families are really excited, to have Casey joining our team.”

Up until mere months ago, Larson was spending a considerable amount of time ski jumping in Norway where TownLift met up with him.

His parents, Guy and Meg, are always volunteering in the sport, and his sister Carra, a ski jumper herself, not only helps coach but also helps out on the communications and social media side of things. Larson himself has held a job for years at the front desk in the Guest Services Department and gives site tours of the entire Utah Olympic Park with all of it’s multiple sport venues, much to the surprise of delighted visitors who beg for a selfie with the one and only.

He can’t wait to meet this winter’s newest ski jumpers who, just like he did at the same age in the Midwest, get their start with Park City’s Youth Sports Alliance.

Three of his PCSS athletes, Augie Roepke, Luke Miller, and Liam Demong, will travel to Lake Placid, N.Y., this week to compete in the National Championships.

At the end of October, everyone inside and outside of Park City will have the chance to support the PCSS Nordic Ski Team by purchasing an Opportunity Drawing ticket for the possibility to win a vacation.
