Police Log: Road debris, concealed firearm found at construction site, and Summit County court report

Monday, October 20

Incident: Traffic Accident
Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident on Highway 40 near Exit 2. The driver exited to stop at a 7-Eleven but took the roundabout too early and drove off the right shoulder into a ditch, damaging high-voltage boxes and phone lines. The vehicle came to rest against a Rocky Mountain Power guide wire. The driver showed no signs of impairment. Power and phone companies were notified to assess the damage, though no phone company representatives responded.

Incident: Traffic Complaint
A caller on Mountain Top Lane requested increased patrols after school hours due to speeding vehicles.

Tuesday, October 21

Incident: Wildlife Problem
A female elk was seen attempting to cross SR-224 near mile marker 8.

Incident: Parking Problem
A backhoe and dump truck were reportedly blocking Solamere Drive. The equipment operators were informed they needed flaggers in both directions.

Incident: Citizen Assist
A caller asked police whether it would be acceptable to wear a fake gun in a holster as part of a cowboy costume for Halloween in Park City. (Carrying a realistic-looking fake gun in public on Halloween is strongly discouraged, even though it may not be explicitly illegal.)

Incident: Animal Problem
A large gray and light brown dog, possibly a Great Dane, was reported running across SR-224 with a broken leg and a cast on.

Wednesday, October 22

Incident: Wildlife Problem
Elk were reported attempting to cross SR-224 near the White Barn area.

Incident: Found Property
A caller on Park Avenue found a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun at a construction site. The firearm appeared to have been concealed.

Incident: Traffic Hazard
A large piece of wood was reported in the eastbound lane of Kearns Boulevard near Sidewinder Drive.

Incident: Disturbing the Peace
A group of men was reported running around and making excessive noise on Park Avenue late in the evening.

Thursday, October 23

Incident: Utility Problem
A construction company clipped a gas line on Royal Street East. The gas leak was contained, and the utility company was notified.

Incident: Agency Assist
Deputies assisted Lehi police after a two-car accident on Ashton Boulevard. One vehicle rolled, and a female and child required extrication.

Incident: Wildlife Problem
A large moose was reported in a residential yard on Park Avenue. Bystanders were reportedly getting too close to the animal.

Friday, October 24

Incident: Traffic Hazard
An injured deer was found lying in the roadway on Marsac Avenue, unable to move.

Incident: Property Damage
A caller on Silver Cloud Drive reported that his mailbox had been struck, scattering debris across the driveway. The caller suspected a nearby construction vehicle to be the culprit.

Incident: Traffic Hazard
Large rocks were reported in the road at 15th Street and Park Avenue. The caller noted that heavy equipment might be needed to remove them.

Incident: Traffic Stop
An officer stopped a vehicle for traveling the wrong way on 5th Street between Main Street and Swede Alley.

Saturday, October 25

Incident: Suspicious Circumstance
Officers responded to a report of a possible domestic situation at The Cabin bar on Main Street. The establishment was checked, but no disturbance requiring law enforcement was found.

West Jordan man placed on probation for attempted aggravated assault
Jorge Raul Paez, 19, of West Jordan, pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault, a Class A misdemeanor. His jail sentence was suspended, and he was placed on probation for 24 months. As part of his probation, Paez must complete an anger management class, perform 24 hours of community service, and have no contact with the victim.

North Salt Lake man’s weapon charge held in abeyance
Andrew Karl Stott, 51, of North Salt Lake, pleaded guilty to threatening with or using a dangerous weapon in a fight or quarrel, a Class A misdemeanor. His plea was held in abeyance for 18 months under standard court conditions.

Duchesne man’s drug charge held in abeyance
Jeremias Brian Mullins, 48, of Duchesne, pleaded guilty to possession or use of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor. His plea was held in abeyance for 24 months under standard conditions, including completing a substance abuse evaluation and any recommended treatment.

Arizona man sentenced to probation for assault, threats at Kimball Junction McDonald’s
Mark Anthony Sanchez, 25, of Scottsdale, Arizona, pleaded guilty to assault with injury, a Class A misdemeanor, and threat of violence, a Class B misdemeanor. His jail sentence was suspended, and he was placed on supervised probation for 24 months. As part of his probation, Sanchez must avoid contact with the victim and is barred from visiting the McDonald’s at Kimball Junction.

Oakley man sentenced to prison for aggravated sexual assault
Kevin D. Wilde, 64, of Oakley, was sentenced to prison for aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony. He received an indeterminate sentence of at least 10 years to life in the Utah State Prison. The court also granted the victim a continuous protective order.

Park City man placed on probation for unlawful detention, reckless driving
Ahmet Demir, 24, of Park City, pleaded guilty to unlawful detention and reckless driving, both Class B misdemeanors. His jail sentence was suspended, and he was placed on probation for 12 months. As part of his probation, Demir must complete an anger management course and have no contact with the victim.
