Playboi Carti cited for assault after alleged altercation with limo driver in Park City

PARK CITY — Rapper Playboi Carti was cited for assault earlier this month after allegedly striking a limousine driver during a stop in Park City, according to court records.

Deputies with the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a fight near River Road and state Route 40 on Oct. 2, according to a police report obtained by KSL.com.

A caller initially told dispatchers they saw two men fighting and said two black SUVs were involved. Shortly afterward, according to the report, a limousine driver — later identified as the alleged victim — called authorities himself and waited at the scene for deputies to arrive.

In the report, the driver told investigators he had been hired to transport Jordan Terrell Carter, known professionally as Playboi Carti, who was in Utah for a concert at the Delta Center on Oct. 3. The driver said he picked up the rapper and his entourage at a Park City hotel and was taking them to a rehearsal at Utah Valley University in Orem when the incident occurred.

According to the report, the driver said Carter and a woman in the vehicle — described as his girlfriend — were smoking marijuana and began arguing. The driver said he became uncomfortable and stopped to separate the pair into different vehicles. Carter’s security guard, who was traveling in a second SUV, was contacted to help move them.

The driver told deputies that stopping the vehicle “upset” Carter’s girlfriend. After everyone exited the vehicles, the report stated, the driver said Carter appeared to strike the woman, though he did not see the physical contact directly. He told police he saw her “hunched over holding near her chest.” Moments later, the driver said Carter struck him, KSL reported.

Deputies documented redness and markings on the left side of the driver’s jaw consistent with being struck. After taking photos and statements, officers allowed him to leave the scene, the report said.

Deputies also interviewed Carter, his girlfriend, and his security guard. Their accounts of what happened differed, according to the report. The girlfriend said she hit the driver because he “got in her business.” The security guard claimed he elbowed the driver using a martial arts move. Carter reportedly told deputies that he punched the driver “for stopping in a weird place and dropping them off.”

Carter was cited for misdemeanor assault. Deputies noted in the report that the rapper asked if the matter could be “taken care of” immediately but was told it would need to proceed through the court process.

Carter was described as cooperative with officers, though “mad that (the limo driver) was doing this based on his status,” according to the report. Deputies photographed his hands as part of the investigation, but Carter declined to have his face photographed for identification purposes.
