PARK CITY, Utah — A recent theft has cast a shadow over the renovation of the historic Centennial House on Main Street. “We were heartbroken to learn that the historic sign from the Centennial Building has been stolen,” said Pete Olson, whose company, PJ Builders, is completing the reconstruction project.

The sign, which read “The Centennial,” hung above the second-story balcony. Whoever took it would have needed to navigate the construction sight and climb up the side of the house to remove it, according to Pamela Alford, who handles marketing for PJ Builders. She has spread the word among locals, asking for the sign’s safe return.
“This piece isn’t just wood and paint, it’s part of Park City’s history, a reminder of the stories and people that have shaped this community for more than a century,” Olson said in a statement. “As we prepare to carefully restore the Centennial into a home that honors its legacy, it’s especially painful to see a piece of that legacy taken.”
Olson, a Park City resident for more than 30 years, has spent decades restoring historic buildings in Old Town. Earlier this year, the Park City Council approved plans for the Centennial House to be reconstructed, restoring its 1907 footprint and form with a new foundation, basement, and materials.
Olson had planned to refurbish the Centennial sign and incorporate it into the building’s next chapter. He is asking anyone with information to reach out and “help bring it back where it belongs.”
