Several people infected with measles after high school cycling event in Wasatch County, Utah

Officials say roughly 2,000 people were potentially exposed to measles after being in attendance of the event.

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — The Utah Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed several individuals were infected with measles linked to a Utah High School Cycling League race held at Soldier Hollow on Aug. 16. Officials say roughly 2,000 people were potentially exposed after being in attendance of the event.

“Measles is highly contagious and spreads easily, even at outdoor events,” said Dr. Leisha Nolen, state epidemiologist. Health officials are now monitoring for additional cases tied to the Soldier Hollow event and other upcoming league activities.

The state urges attendees to review their MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination status. Two doses of the vaccine are recommended for children 4 and older.

Symptoms typically appear one to two weeks after exposure and include fever, cough, runny nose, and a blotchy rash that spreads from the face downward.

Utah public health is working with the Utah High School Cycling League to inform families of race participants who attended the Soldier Hollow event on August 16, 2025. We are also working collaboratively to help prevent spread at ongoing practices and upcoming events.
