Police Log: Theft at Coach outlet; motorist arrested after driving into oncoming traffic

Monday, August 25
Incident: Pedestrian Stop
An officer observed a man jaywalking across Prospector Avenue about 10 yards from the crosswalk. The man was contacted and warned about jaywalking.
Tuesday, August 26
Incident: Wildlife Problem
A baby fox was reported curled up next to the street across from Windy Ridge on Iron Horse Drive. The caller said the animal was still breathing.
Incident: Suspicious Activity
A caller reported a group of teenage kids at the Rotary Park gazebo around 10:30 p.m. the previous night with lighters and possibly paraphernalia. Extra patrol was requested in the area.
Wednesday, August 27
Incident: Suspicious Activity
Security cameras on Centennial Circle recorded someone walking around with a flashlight, approaching the front door and then circling to the back of a house. The incident lasted about five minutes.
Incident: School Zone Monitoring
Officers provided a police presence at McPolin Elementary School, where high school students with Treasure Mountain Junior High parking passes were attempting to park.
Thursday, August 28
Incident: DUI
Deputies stopped a vehicle on Bitner Road for multiple lane violations, including driving into oncoming traffic. The driver showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. They were arrested and booked for DUI and other traffic offenses.
Incident: Theft
Two men entered the Coach store at the Outlets on Landmark Drive, grabbed merchandise off shelves and racks, and ran out without paying. They fled in a silver Hyundai SUV, which was later located on I-80.
Incident: Unwanted Person
A man was reported in a Stein Way driveway after being asked to leave. The caller said he was exercising and practicing martial arts in the driveway.
Saturday, August 30
Incident: Drugs
Deputies stopped a vehicle at mile marker 146 on I-80 eastbound for a traffic violation. A controlled substance was observed in plain view. A search revealed additional drugs and paraphernalia. The driver was arrested and taken to the Summit County Jail.
Incident: Traffic Hazard
A dead porcupine was reported in the roadway on Marsac Avenue near Empire Club Drive, lying next to the double yellow line.
Incident: Traffic Stop
Deputies stopped a vehicle traveling 36 mph in a 45 mph zone in the left lane on State Road 224. The driver was warned for impeding traffic and for failing to update his Oregon license after living in Utah for about six months.
Sunday, August 31
Incident: Domestic Violence
Deputies responded to the Westgate Hotel for a domestic violence incident between a man and a woman. The woman had visible injuries, and probable cause for arrest was established. The man had left the scene but was later detained at his Holladay residence by Unified Police and taken into custody.
Incident: Wildlife Problem
A moose was reported near the Deer Valley lakes area at Deer Valley Drive North and Amber Road. A caller said women were approaching the animal to take photos.
