OGDEN, Utah — A new film festival is arriving in Utah. With a debut set for March 2027, the Raindance Film Festival is making Ogden its new US host location for the UK-based event. Raindance is the UK’s largest independent film festival and has a prestigious reputation for showcasing emerging talent worldwide.
“Since its inception, Raindance has championed bold new voices and disruptive ideas in independent film,” said Elliot Grove, Founder of Raindance Film Festival. “Ogden is the perfect stage for this next chapter of Raindance — this city’s energy and innovation mirror our mission to nurture the filmmakers who will define the future of cinema.”
Ogden’s selection as the host city was the result of a collaborative vision between Raindance and city leaders to strengthen the region’s creative economy, according to a release. Significant renovations on Historic 25th street will provide the backdrop to shape the character of the festival. The event is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors, generate significant tourism revenue, and enhance Ogden’s reputation as a destination for arts, culture, and technology.
The announcement comes as Park City prepares for a shift in its own film landscape. Earlier this year, Sundance Institute confirmed its flagship festival will move to Boulder, Colorado, beginning in 2027 after more than four decades in Park City. While Raindance won’t replace Sundance’s size or profile, its arrival underscores Utah’s ongoing appeal as a backdrop for international film events.
“This partnership with Raindance is more than a festival – it’s an investment in Ogden’s creative future,” said Ben Nadolski, Mayor of Ogden City. “We’re honored to welcome international filmmakers and audiences to experience our city’s unique blend of history, innovation, and breathtaking mountain surroundings.”
Raindance Film Festival will hold its first Ogden season in March 2027.
