PARK CITY, Utah — City officials celebrated the completion of Phase I of the Thaynes Canyon Parkway trail project on Tuesday.
The project created a new pathway along Thaynes Canyon Drive and added sidewalk connections along Snow Creek Drive to McLeod Creek Trail, giving pedestrians and cyclists safer, more convenient access through the area and direct connections to both the Farm Trail and McLeod Trail.
After breaking ground in May, city staff and council members gathered this week to mark the official opening of the trail.
Funding for Phase I came from 2019 Utah Department of Transportation funding awarded to the city to prioritize biking and walking improvements in the Thaynes Canyon and Three Kings area. More recently, Summit County contributed additional funding to support continued progress into future phases.
For Phase II, the city council will study the feasibility of a connection between Thaynes Canyon Drive and the resort area, which would include a shared-use path along Three Kings Drive.
Design work for this phase is planned for 2025, followed by an alternatives analysis in spring 2026. Construction is currently targeted to begin in spring 2027.
