PARK CITY, Utah — More than two dozen artists will showcase their creative talents during the ninth annual Monster Drawing Rally, a live art-making event hosted by the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County in partnership with Kimball Art Center. The rally will take place on Saturday, September 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Kimball Art Center, located at 1251 Kearns Boulevard in Park City.
As one of Summit County’s signature arts events, the Monster Drawing Rally offers attendees a chance to watch artists create work in real time. “This incredibly interactive and lively event brings artists and attendees together throughout the art-making process. It has quickly become a beloved experience for both artists and art lovers,” said Jocelyn Scudder, executive director of the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County. “This event ensures that everyone in attendance has the opportunity to connect with artists and purchase their work at an affordable price.”
During the rally, artists are challenged to complete two-dimensional works in 50-minute shifts. Each finished piece will be made immediately available for purchase for $50. If more than one bidder wants the same piece, the winner is determined by drawing lots. All 27 participating artists will take part in three rounds of art-making.
Proceeds from the $50 artwork sales benefit the Arts Council and Kimball Art Center. Participating artists donate their pieces to support future community programming.
The event also includes a silent auction, with several artists contributing additional work. Bidding takes place throughout the rally and closes at 5:30 p.m. Sixty percent of the silent auction proceeds go directly to the artists.
This year’s participating artists include Elissa Sabbö, Marley Wright, Luis Canelón, Chloe Sawyer, Anna Nizhoni, Jimmy Eaton, Angie Bizon, Russell Blackwell, Emily Madsen, Kylie Millward, Lindalee Holmes, Renee Mox Hall, Grace Gladson, Alexandra Jicol, Danielle Powers, Tori Olson, AD Allegretti, Casey Mossholder, Mark Maziarz, Hannah Loertscher, Jasper Luker, Evie Chen, Eric Warner, Alyssa Hartman, Ophelia Owens, Angel Cly and James Saarela.
“Art is meant to be enjoyed and shared, and the Monster Drawing Rally delivers on that year after year,” said Aldy Milliken, executive director of Kimball Art Center. “It’s always a very creative and celebratory atmosphere, and the Kimball Art Center is thrilled to host the rally for the community once again.”
Alongside live art-making, the rally will feature music, a cash bar and self-guided tours of Kimball Art Center’s current exhibition.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students ages 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and under. Tickets are limited and advance purchase is encouraged.
