PARK CITY, Utah — On Thursday, the Park City High School Boys Golf Team hosted an annual regional tournament for eight schools from northern Utah at the Park City Municipal Golf Course.
Highland High came away with the win, scoring a total of 307. East High placed second in the team category, and the Park City Miners finished third, scoring 322 for the team.
The two golfers with the lowest rounds from the Miners were junior Linus Einum and senior Cooper Kozlowski, who both posted the only numbers in the 70s on the squad at 77 and 79, respectively. The rest of the Park City players ended their day with two athletes in the 80s and four in the 90s on their cards.
Other schools at the tournament were Juan Diego, Murray, Jordan, Cottonwood, and Judge Memorial.

“We love hosting this tournament, it’s one of the beautiful factors of a city-owned golf course, which is that the amenity is here for the whole community,” Vaughn Robinson told TownLift. He’s been the Golf Manager at that venue since 1998. “Having the local families playing here is great, as well as the ones from down in the Valley.”
All the municipal courses in the teams’ towns also serve as their high school sports home venue.
He went on to explain the course management involved. “This is an especially important home-field-advantage course for the Miners over the years, where they can make up some strokes because there are so many trees out there. When the other teams come up here, they focus on the trouble versus the shot they’re trying to hit.”
Robinson and his staff rightfully take pride in the fact that the Miners were, at one point in their not-too-distant history, 11-time straight state champions and won it last year.
For Jenny MacDougall, this is her first year as the head coach of the team, having moved up from her previous role as assistant coach.
“The course was in great shape, but it was playing tough today. It was good to see Cooper and Linus, varsity veterans, grind it out and keep a competitive spirit. We’re still in the hunt; we have two matches left in the season. We’re looking forward to the regional tournament at the Glendale course next week, and hopefully that will give us the momentum we need going into the Regional Championships.”
One athlete who is not a ‘varsity veteran,’ as the coach put it, is Park City senior Ryder Magnuson. His younger sister, his mom, and his dad were all on hand, spectating from a golf cart yesterday. He was having fun in his first year playing competitive golf. His family is aware that it’s not out of the ordinary to play through after high school.

Ryder’s dad is no stranger to elite sports, as he has been an out-of-state travel coach for the local soccer club before.
