PARK CITY, Utah — For more than 30 years, The Spa Source has been a fixture in the Park City area, providing service, repairs and sales for hot tubs. Today, the business is under the ownership of Reazon Singer, who began with the company in 2012 and credits its founders, Steve Hegerfeld and Steve Olsen, with shaping both the business and his own life.
The Spa Source doors opened in June 1997, following the merger of Northridge Specialties and Spa Mechanix. In a 1997 Park Record profile, the “two Steves” were described as seasoned professionals in spa maintenance, repair, sales and installation. Olsen brought his background from Northridge Specialties, while Hegerfeld contributed years of running Spa Mechanix. Together, they set out to create a full-service retail outlet — an idea they had been working toward for more than five years before opening their location on Ironhorse Drive.
Back then, the founders spoke about changes in the industry, from built-in custom spa installations to a growing demand for portable spas, which had become more reliable and easier to maintain. They focused heavily on maintenance, offering service programs to keep water chemistry balanced and equipment in peak condition.
Singer’s connection to The Spa Source began in 2012, when a seasonal slowdown in his work as an electrician led him to take a short-term role wiring hot tubs for the company. Within two months, Hegerfeld offered him a full-time position, matching his pay and giving him the tools to grow in the role.
“Within a year, I was climbing the ranks,” Singer said. “Eventually, I was leading route operations and later became the lead repair technician.”
Hegerfeld and Olsen brought very different strengths to the business. Hegerfeld, a disciplined and health-focused professional, led by example and treated everyone with respect. Olsen, a tough, direct personality, wasn’t afraid to confront challenges head-on. “I like to think I’m somewhere between the two of them — firm when I need to be, and respectful,” Singer said.
Singer was also building his own company on the side. At just 21, he launched Singer Superior, a hot tub business based in Kamas. Over the years, he grew it to more than 150 weekly clients. For nearly a decade, he worked full-time at The Spa Source by day and ran Singer Superior by night, often logging 12-hour days, six days a week.
By 2015, Olsen had sold his share of the business to Hegerfeld, who began stepping back from day-to-day operations. Singer, who had often joked about buying the company, seized the opportunity when Hegerfeld had the business evaluated. Using his home in Coalville as collateral and co-signing through his own hot tub company, Singer purchased The Spa Source in his early 30s.
“They started something that’s been part of this community for three decades,” Singer said. “I’m proud to carry it forward and keep the focus on service and relationships.”
Even before the sale, Singer had been managing operations for several years. Since taking ownership, he has expanded the staff and continued the founders’ focus on quality service, industry expertise, and customer care.
As The Spa Source looks toward the future, Singer remains committed to the principles that Hegerfeld and Olsen established decades ago. The company continues to serve Park City area residents with the same dedication to quality service and customer relationships that made it a community staple. With an expanded team and Singer’s vision for growth, The Spa Source is positioned to carry its founders’ legacy forward for another generation of hot tub enthusiasts in the valley.
