Hike for Hunger 2025 honors CCPC’s past and looks forward to another 25 years

PARK CITY, Utah — The Christian Center of Park City (CCPC) is commemorating 25 years of service with an expanded edition of its annual Hike for Hunger, at the Utah Olympic Park on Sept. 6, from 2-6 p.m., transforming the longstanding tradition into a large-scale celebration of community impact and a vision for the future.

Eli Shackelford, CCPC’s new Director of Programs, said this year’s event will carry a dual purpose. “We’re utilizing [Hike for Hunger] this year as a community celebration,” he said. “Celebrate 25 years of serving the community with us and the vision for 25 more years. It’ll be a fun afternoon for the whole family.”

The event will take place at Utah Olympic Park and feature outdoor activities, live entertainment, and opportunities to engage with CCPC’s mission of service.

Hike for Hunger is a full day of recreation and celebration. Attendees have access to Utah Olympic Park activities such as extreme tubing, zip lines, the alpine slide, and a ropes course. The event also includes hiking, a shared meal, and live music by the Hothouse West Swing Orchestra.

The event is ticketed, but Shackleford explained that admission functions as a donation to the nonprofit, with proceeds supporting CCPC’s efforts to combat food insecurity and expand critical community services.

Hike for Hunger is a key awareness event that helps sustain CCPC’s programs addressing food insecurity in Summit and Wasatch counties. Food insecurity occurs when a person or family is unable to access enough food for a healthy and active life, according to Feeding America, the US-based nonprofit that runs more than 200 food banks and feeds 46 million people every year, explains the important distinction between hunger and insecurity.

The organization’s mission of “meeting people at their point of need” reflects its commitment to providing programs that serve the expanding region. These include initiatives that provide food, school supplies, mental health and wellness support, and other essential services.

“We really want to invite people who received our services or donated or volunteered,” Shackleford said. “Or maybe they’re just curious about the Christian Center—show up and learn about us at this event.”

While the nonprofit’s 20th anniversary focused on past milestones, Shackleford said this year’s event is forward-looking. “Let’s look ahead to 25 more years,” he said. “We really want to captivate the community.”
