Park City cyclists urged to use trail next to SR-224, expect impacts through 2028

When heavy construction begins next spring, cyclists will have access to either the shoulder or paved trail until the project's completion in 2028.

PARK CITY, Utah — High Valley Transit has begun early utility work on SR-224 ahead of the Bus Rapid Transit project scheduled to begin in spring 2026.

Crews are primarily working in the center of the highway, but traffic has been shifted to the shoulders between Sun Peak Drive and White Pine Canyon Road. Two lanes remain open in both directions during the day, though nighttime work may reduce traffic to one lane each way. Shoulder closures are in place during both daytime and nighttime hours.

Cyclists are encouraged to use the grade-separated paved trail along the corridor during this phase of construction.

When heavy construction begins next spring, work on both the highway and the paved trail will be generally limited to one side of the highway at a time. Cyclists will have access to either the shoulder or paved trail until the project’s completion in 2028.

Once finished, the corridor will feature wider or new trail sections and a new road configuration. Cyclists who choose to ride on SR-224 will have a two-foot buffer, a 12-foot bus lane and a four-foot shoulder separating them from vehicle traffic.
