COALVILLE — A family dispute in Coalville escalated into a tense SWAT standoff Thursday evening, ending when authorities discovered the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly before 5 p.m. Sept. 25 to a home near 300 South Main Street following reports of a domestic dispute. While deputies were speaking with family members outside, an adult male involved in the incident went back inside the residence and refused to come out.
Because of criminal conduct that occurred before deputies arrived and concerns about public safety, the Sheriff’s Office requested help from the joint Park City Police/Summit County SWAT team.
Negotiators attempted for several hours to persuade the man to surrender, making brief contact at times, but he remained uncooperative.
A drone deployed inside the residence later showed the suspect with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Tactical officers entered the home and confirmed he was deceased.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity. The Sheriff’s Office said the case remains under active investigation.
