Summerhays is top golfer from Utah in Utah’s Korn Ferry PGA Tour stop

OGDEN, Utah — The PGA’s Korn Ferry Tour made its anual stop in Utah over the weekend, this time being hosted at the Ogden Golf & Country Club where 23-year-old Preston Summerhays tied for seventh place as the top Utahn on the leaderboard.

Julian Suri from New York took home the million dollar winning check.

Summerhays grew up in Farmington, Utah before playing golf at Arizona State University then turning pro just this year, he won $26,692 at this event. If the last name sounds familiar, it’s because the famous family boasts multiple golf prodigies who all like to play this Utah Tournament, they include Grace, Boyd, Bruce, and Daniel, who tied for 22nd in Ogden.

Kihei Akina, from Alpine, Utah and plays as a first year BYU golfer failed to make the cut. Connor Howe played on his home course right there in Ogden tied for 37th. Rounding out the four Utah athletes playing was Peter Kuest from American Fork and a BYU Golf alumni tied for 22nd place.

Five athletes tied for second place; three Americans, one South African, and one Japanese golfer.

The Korn Ferry tour next rolls on to Miami Beach where once again, this leader will win $1 million.
