Purrfectly wild: Bobcat mom and kittens spotted in Summit Park

SUMMIT PARK, Utah — Summit Park resident Lena Powell got a rare treat this week: a glimpse of a bobcat and her three playful kittens roaming through the neighborhood near Park City.
A video shared by KUTV show the mother leading her young along a paved path before disappearing into the trees. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officials say bobcat sightings aren’t unheard of in the area, but seeing a mother with kittens is unusual.

Bobcats are native to Utah and typically avoid human contact, especially when raising young. Wildlife officials are reminding residents to keep pets indoors, secure trash cans, and give the animals plenty of space.
The sighting comes during late summer, when bobcat kittens are learning to hunt and becoming more active. Experts say observing from a distance is the best way to ensure both the cats’ safety and the public’s.
