Police Log: Pursuit and arrest after shots fired at Park City Gun Club, dump truck catches fire on Deer Valley roundabout

Monday, August 18
Incident: Suspicious
A man reported that someone entered his vehicle, a white Kia Sorento, which was parked at an auto parts store on Sidewinder Drive while he was next door at a 7-Eleven.
Incident: Suspicious
A caller reported a man in camouflage possibly hunting with a bow near the Keystone bike trail where it meets the Fool’s Gold ski run at Park City Mountain Resort. Police officers were not able to access the area, and forwarded the information on to Park City Mountain.
Tuesday, August 19
Incident: Attempt to Locate
An e-bike rider was reported to be blocking traffic, yelling at cars, and unable to maintain lanes while heading down Deer Valley Drive toward the roundabout.
Incident: Motorist Assist
Deputies stopped to assist a vehicle stalled in the right lane at Deer Valley Drive and Park Avenue. The occupants were lost and looking for a place to eat.
Wednesday, August 20
Incident: Wildlife Problem
A baby deer with a broken leg was found in a ditch near the Rail Trail along Prospector Avenue.
Thursday, August 21
Incident: Accident
A dump truck was driving down Marsac Avenue when its brakes failed and caught fire after passing the runaway truck ramp and proceeding to the Deer Valley Drive roundabout, according to the Park City Fire Department. Fire crews cleared and reopened the road after about 45 minutes. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and nobody was injured.
Incident: Weapons Violation
Sheriff’s deputies responded Thursday afternoon to reports of a man who may have been armed near the Exxon gas station in the Canyons Village area, prompting precautionary lockdowns at two nearby schools.

Friday, August 22
Incident: DUI
Summit County deputies responded to an erratic driver who had nearly caused two accidents. The suspect was stopped at the Lincoln Station Apartments, showed signs of alcohol impairment, failed field sobriety tests, and was arrested for DUI.
Incident: DUI
Summit County deputies responded to Riverview Court for a possible intoxicated driver. The suspect’s vehicle showed fresh accident damage, and the driver displayed signs of impairment. After failing field sobriety tests, he was arrested for DUI.
Incident: Hit and Run
A vehicle struck a Park City Parks Department vehicle at Main Street and Deer Valley Drive and left the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a red car of unknown make or model. Minor front bumper damage was reported to the city vehicle.
Incident: Suspicious
A resident reported arriving at a second home on Solamere Drive to find the back door completely shattered.
Sunday, August 24
Incident: Fire Assist / Medical Emergency
Summit County Search and Rescue assisted with evacuations at Echo Creek Ranches following a lightning-caused brush fire. SAR was also activated for a juvenile medical emergency near Dollar Lake in the High Uintas. LifeFlight located and treated the juvenile before SAR’s arrival.
Incident: Aggressive Burglary, Pursuit, Theft, Weapons Violations
Deputies responded to an alarm at the Park City Gun Club on Forestdale Drive. Shots were fired inside the building and through windows toward deputies. Park City Police assisted with drones and containment. The suspect fled north on Old Highway 40, and a pursuit ended at Trailside Park when the suspect’s vehicle struck a basketball standard. The suspect surrendered, was taken into custody, and transported for medical attention.
