Park City Ski & Snowboard teams up with Freedog for benefit concert

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Ski & Snowboard (PCSS) will bring the community together Sept. 12 for its first-ever benefit concert, Freedog Live at Weedon Family Ranch — an evening of live music, local food and drink, and mountain-town camaraderie, all to support the next generation of winter athletes.

Hosted at scenic Weedon Ranch near Canyons Village, the fundraiser will help PCSS provide training opportunities, coaching, and resources for more than 1,200 athletes across nine winter sports disciplines. The club has long been a launching pad for Olympic and World Cup competitors, including Ted Ligety, Steven Nyman and Lauren Macuga, as well as a place where thousands of young athletes gain skills and friendships that last a lifetime.

“This is about our community rallying around the kids,” said PCSS Performance Sports Director Tommy Eckfeldt. “We’re constantly working to keep programs accessible and world-class, and events like this make a real difference.”

PCSS was formed in 2017 through the merger of five separate Park City winter sports clubs, uniting multiple disciplines under one organization. Today, it supports winter athletes in alpine, snowboard, Nordic, and freestyle programs.

The evening will feature a performance by Freedog, fronted by PCSS alumnus and former U.S. Ski Team racer Bryon Friedman. Friedman’s return to perform is a “full-circle moment,” Eckfeldt said, noting that many alumni — including Ligety and Nyman — have come back as parents, coaches, and supporters. “It’s about giving back to the club that helped them get where they are.”

Dinner and drinks will be provided by Vessel Kitchen and Park City Brewery, with sweeping sunset views, space for dancing, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Event organizer Heidi Voelker said she wanted to create a fundraiser that felt different from the galas and golf tournaments that fill Park City’s nonprofit calendar.

“It’s a celebration of the values our club stands for — hard work, family, and giving back,” Voelker said. “PCSS is unique because so many of our coaches, parents, and administrators have competed at the top levels. We’re not just building athletes; we’re preparing kids for life.”

Voelker credited local real estate broker Scott Thompson for helping secure Weedon Ranch as the venue. “It’s a beautiful spot, and having that kind of community support — along with our sponsors Vessel Kitchen and Park City Brewery — is a huge part of how this came together,” she said.

The concert begins at 5 p.m., with music starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $80 for adults and $25 for children. Free parking will be available at Canyons Lot 4, with a short walk or shuttle ride to the venue. All ages are welcome.
