Montage Deer Valley hosts Star Party for Perseid meteor shower viewing

PARK CITY, Utah — Montage Deer Valley will host a Star Party on Tuesday, Aug. 12, giving the public a chance to observe the annual Perseid meteor shower with the help of local astronomers.

The 2.5-hour event begins at 9:30 p.m. at Compass Sports and will feature members of the Utah Valley Astronomical Club. Telescopes will be available, and attendees will receive guidance on viewing planetary activity and identifying constellations as the meteor shower reaches its peak.

The Perseids are known for producing frequent and bright meteors, typically visible in mid-August. The club’s volunteers will be on hand to assist viewers in spotting meteors and exploring other celestial features throughout the night.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Food will be available for purchase from Slope Stream as well as drinks from the resort’s Veuve Clicquot Après Lounge. While donations to the Utah Valley Astronomical Club are optional, they can be included during the reservation process.

The event is open to the public. Tickets begin at $10 for those not staying at the resort and include valet parking. Reservations are required and can be made through the Compass Sports team. Cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance are eligible for a full refund.
