Celebrate Miners Day Parade, Running of the Balls on September 1

PARK CITY, Utah — Each year visitors and locals alike look forward to celebrating Miners Day the Park City way which shows up in the form of a Main Street parade and a community party, this year the date to save is September 1, 2025.

New to the day-of-fun this year, the Park City Rotary‘s line up presented in partnership with Park City Municipal Corp, will include:

  • The Big Ballers Club A VIP experience for prime viewing of both events, with food, libations, and exclusive perks, presented in partnership with The Cabin 

  • The Best Performance float award, a chance to awe the judges and crowd with a spectacular up to six-second routine. It’s an opportunity to showcase talent, win a $1,000 prize

  • A chance to bid on a piece of local legend – the rock used for the Miners Day drilling competition, this year’s rock could be won to display as a true local landmark

“This year, we’ve added several new, fun ways to celebrate our town’s unique community spirit, to raise more money for our community grants and scholarships,” event chair Kristin Wright said in a statement. “We’ve partnered with The Cabin to present the Big Ballers Club, beginning at 9:30 am, near the bottom of the ball track. The experience includes front-row seats to the parade on Main Street, one Silver Strike ball a $100 value, Huge Balls 20 balls a $100 value, two drink tickets, a breakfast buffet, libations, and collector’s item swag.” Entry is $375 for individuals, or $500 per couple.

Activities help to fund Park City Rotary’s Community Grants and Scholarship programs.

The Running of the Balls features a release of nearly 15,000 balls down Main Street via a specially designed track that begins near Java Cow and ends below the Post Office. The winners are the first few dozen balls into the chute at the end of the track. Balls may be purchased for $10 each, with packages available at 3 for $20, 8 for $50, and 20 for $100, by visiting www.ParkCityMinersDay.org. For the second year in a row, a limited number of balls will be sold for a special Silver Strike Ball Run. The winner of the Silver Strike Ball run wins a $3000 “Fly, Stay, and Play” prize package. Balls are also available for purchase on Main Street on the day of the event, while supplies last.

The Miners Day Parade begins immediately after the Running of the Balls, with community entries ranging from community-group floats to athletic demonstrations, classic cars, marching bands, and more. “We’ve offered every entrant the option to add a 60-second performance to their entry,” Wright said. “Groups may opt to form an amateur kazoo band, a lawn chair drill team, or even 60 seconds of a song—anything goes.”

The parade proceeds down Main Street and then continues down Park Avenue to City Park for an all-afternoon family-friendly celebration featuring food trucks, a beer/liquor garden, music, and kids’ games. 

The Mucking and Drilling Competition also returns to the City Park festivities. “We had a great response when we rebooted this tradition last year,” Wright said. “This year, thanks to our local partners at Mountain Valley Stone and Ivan’s Crane, we will auction off the rock used for the Mucking and Drilling Competition.” The online auction link will be open to bids until Miners Day. Miners Day in Park City is an all-day celebration, with family-friendly activities including breakfast in City Park, served by members of St. Mary’s Church, and a Miners Day Bark City 5K (canine companions welcome), hosted by Park City’s Twilight Rotary Club. Following the Running of the Balls and the Miners Day Parade, there is a full afternoon of family-friendly activities in City Park, including food trucks, a beer and liquor garden, music, and kids’ games. 

The Running of the Balls portion of the morning comes with an opportunity to win prizes, including season passes at Deer Valley and Park City Mountain, a $1,000 Delta Airlines gift card, entertainment and event ticket packages, along with certificates for dining, lodging, and spa treatments.
