Critical fire weather conditions prompt Red Flag Warning, Fire Weather Watch

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah —A Red Flag Warning was issued by Summit County this morning as the area is set to experience gusty winds and low humidity throughout the day and into the evening.

The warning is in place from noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and is accompanied by a Fire Weather Watch in place from noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Critical fire weather conditions are set to continue throughout the next couple days across northern Utah and southwest Wyoming. On Thursday, a chance of isolated and scattered dry lightning following a long dry period will increase the threat of new fires. If sparked, a fresh blaze could spread rapidly driven by wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Officials are urging residents to follow Stage 2 fire restrictions, which are in place throughout Utah, in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, and in Ashley National Forest. Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit open fires, including campfires and charcoal grills, on all public and private lands. This includes campfires in designated fire pits.
