Celebrate the power of speech with free Sundance film screening and discussion

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Toastmasters Club is partnering with Park City Film to present a free community screening of the award-winning Sundance documentary “Speak.” on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Jim Santy Auditorium.

The collaboration is especially fitting for the subject of the film. Park City Toastmasters, which recently celebrated 25 years of helping local residents strengthen public‑speaking and leadership skills, shares the film’s focus on the power of communication. “Speak.” follows five teenage competitors as they prepare for the National Speech and Debate Association Championship, often called the “Super Bowl of public speaking.” The documentary captures their intense training, emotional highs and lows, and the personal stories driving their passion for oratory.

Following the screening, a live Q&A will feature director Guy Mossman and two student participants, Mfaz Mohamed Ali and Sam, who will join via Zoom. Gregg Davison of Park City Toastmasters will moderate the discussion.

“Park City is a town that values both art and conversation,” said Karen Stone, president of Park City Toastmasters. “We’re honored to contribute our communication expertise to this event that celebrates storytelling and the power of the spoken word.”

The screening is part of Park City Film’s Raising Voices Film Series, with support from Park City Chamber and Park City Municipal Corp.

Admission is free, though advance registration is encouraged at ParkCityFilm.org.
