Suspect arrested after firing shots at Park City Gun Club, standoff at Trailside Park

UPDATE: A Utah man was arrested Sunday morning following a pursuit and armed standoff that began when he fired multiple shots from inside the Park City Gun Club.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alarm at the gun club on Forestdale Drive at approximately 5:30 a.m. When deputies arrived, they heard gunshots coming from inside the building and observed multiple shots being fired from inside toward the outside, according to a press release.

A male suspect then exited the business and fled in a vehicle when deputies attempted a traffic stop, leading to a pursuit that ended at Trailside Bike Park where the suspect crashed.

The suspect, described as a Utah resident in his forties, refused commands to surrender and barricaded himself, prompting a SWAT team response. The standoff lasted approximately one hour and 20 minutes before the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody safely.

One Summit County deputy sustained minor injuries, possibly from bullet ricochet or flying debris while outside the gun club. No law enforcement officers fired shots during the incident.

The suspect’s identity has not been released. The shelter-in-place order for area residents has been lifted. The investigation is ongoing.
