A simple "Ask an Officer" question just unleashed some big news: Park City's getting its first bomb-sniffing officer, and this one works for treats
PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Police Department will soon welcome its first police canine, a bomb detection dog approved by city leadership to enhance security for the community’s numerous large events.
The announcement came during the department’s “Ask an Officer” program, where residents can submit questions to local law enforcement. Lt. Danielle Snelson responded to a resident’s question about whether the police department has a police dog.
The department does not currently have a canine unit, but city officials recently approved the addition of an explosives detection dog.
“With the support of our city council, our city manager and our city mayor, we’ve recently been approved for a police canine that will be trained in detecting explosives, also known as a bomb dog,” Snelson said.
The new four-legged officer will join the force in the coming months as Park City continues to host major events that draw large crowds.
“Over the next few months, we’ll be introducing a new member to our police department,” Snelson said.
The addition represents the department’s first foray into canine services, marking a significant expansion of its capabilities for public safety and event security.
