UDOT says skip Parleys Canyon this weekend if you can

PARK CITY, Utah — Drivers heading to and from the Wasatch Back this weekend should expect significant delays in Parley’s Canyon as a roadwork project squeezes Interstate 80 down to one lane in each direction.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises travelers to plan ahead or consider alternative routes, especially with increased traffic expected for weekend recreation in Summit and Wasatch counties.
Crews will be working on a paving project between the mouth of the canyon and the Mountain Dell Reservoir (Exits 131–134). Lane restrictions are scheduled for the evenings of Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26:
- Eastbound I-80: One lane open starting as early as 7 p.m.
- Westbound I-80: One lane open starting by 10:30 p.m.
With just a single lane open in each direction, delays could be significant—especially during peak travel times.
Alternate routes recommended
UDOT suggests using:
- Provo Canyon (U.S. 189)
- Interstate 84 through Weber Canyon
Both offer detours around the construction zone and may help avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Before hitting the road, drivers can check real-time traffic updates, live cameras, and construction alerts on the UDOT Traffic app or at udottraffic.utah.gov.
