Deb Sheldon wasn’t always a rodeo-goer, growing up on the East Coast didn’t provide the up-close-and-personal opportunity that she has nowadays after her 20 years of living in Park City followed by 10 years living in Oakley. TownLift asked her if she’s one of those rodeo aficionados who go online to buy July’s Oakley Rodeo tickets as early as March? “March,” she laughed out loud, “Nope, I’m one that happily stands in line in February to show my utility bill document as a proud local and purchase my tickets then.”
With a parade, fireworks, junior rodeo, a kids fun run, and a patriotic program, there was enough going on each of the multiple days of the Oakley Rodeo to educate and entertain everyone there.
“Yeah, this is a big deal rodeo.” Roman Tolins told TownLift. He’s the groundsman at the venue who’s also a competitor said Corona, his heel horse, is his best horse. “Everybody tries to get out of the city to come up here.” He knows of what he speaks as the rodeo rider grew up in Kaysville competing since a high school level.
Athletes travel from states all throughout the West and spectators come in from neighboring states as well.
