PARK CITY, Utah — Basin Recreation is inviting the community to celebrate the grand opening of its new Pollinator Garden at Matt Knoop Park on Wednesday, July 2. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. at the park.
The garden, planted in fall 2024 and recently certified as a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat, is designed to support native pollinators such as bees, butterflies, birds, and other beneficial insects. Featuring about 220 plants—many of them grown locally in the Trailside greenhouse—the garden demonstrates how native species and wildflowers can be incorporated into ornamental landscaping.
The project started in 2023 with the vision of having a garden that can provide a space for residents of Park City and visitors to learn about how the local flora supports a myriad of pollinator species like bees, butterflies, birds, and other insects.
The Pollinator Garden is located on the southeast side of the park, just behind the playground. During the event, staff will be on hand to talk about the garden’s creation and encourage residents to explore native planting in their own yards.
All ages are welcome to attend, though dogs are not permitted inside the garden space.
