HEBER CITY, Utah — A 32-year-old man was arrested on July Fourth afternoon after a high-speed collision on Main Street led to a brief standoff with Heber City Police.
According to a department press release, the incident began around 1:10 p.m. when officers observed a vehicle speeding southbound on Main Street, disregarding traffic signals and driving into oncoming lanes. The driver, identified as Stockton Charles Harlow McBride, ran a red light and collided with another vehicle making a legal turn.
Following the crash, police said McBride claimed to have a weapon and barricaded himself inside his vehicle. After about 5 to 10 minutes, he exited the car but refused to comply with commands. Officers deployed a Taser and safely took him into custody.
McBride was booked into the Wasatch County Jail on multiple charges, including reckless driving, DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and interfering with an arresting officer.
The incident occurred on the same day as Heber City’s Red, White, and Blue Festival, which was held Friday on Main Street.
