PARK CITY, Utah — Local trail managers are warning hikers and bikers to brace for heavy traffic on Rob’s and Mid Mountain trails this weekend as the 29029 Trail Race rolls into town Thursday through Saturday. The endurance event is scheduled to run daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., overlapping prime recreation hours.
Basin Recreation, which oversees the impacted trail system, stressed that all routes will stay open but said parking will be tight and congestion inevitable. The district encouraged users to consider alternate trailheads or plan excursions outside the race window.
Dubbed “TRAIL Park City,” the sold-out challenge is the newest offering from 29029 Everesting. Participants attempt three marathon-length courses on consecutive days — a “3×3” format that totals roughly 78 miles of hiking, jogging or walking across varied singletrack and mountain roads.
Race organizers base the event at Park City Mountain Resort, with check-in beginning Wednesday afternoon and course starts each morning at 6 a.m. Competitors have 12 hours per day to finish before regrouping at Basecamp for recovery and an evening program.
While the influx of runners adds a jolt of midsummer energy to the trail network, Basin Recreation reiterated that everyday users still have full access. “All trails and park amenities remain open during events,” the agency wrote in its public notice, adding that congestion should ease after 6 p.m. each day.
Trail users seeking quieter terrain during the event may find relief on other Basin Recreation properties such as Round Valley, Flying Dog or the RTS system, which are not on the race course.
