WEBER CANYON, Utah — A 17-year-old Summit County resident was killed Wednesday evening in a motorcycle crash on Weber Canyon Road, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene around 6 p.m. on July 9 after a passerby reported finding a crashed motorcycle and its rider roughly seven miles east of the canyon’s base. Authorities say the teen had already succumbed to his injuries by the time first responders arrived.
A preliminary investigation indicates the rider was traveling eastbound and riding alone when he failed to navigate a turn. The motorcycle slid off the road and struck a fence post.
Officials believe the crash occurred approximately 30 minutes before it was discovered and reported. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
In a statement Thursday, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office offered condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the wider community.
Police will not be releasing the identity of the victim because he was a juvenile, police said.
This story will be updated as information becomes available.
