PARK CITY, Utah — Park City School District surprised two staff members and two students with districtwide We All Belong Kindness Award grand prizes during campus visits Tuesday.
The awards program, launched this school year in partnership with the Park City Community Foundation, honors people who foster kindness and belonging across the district’s seven schools. Monthly winners were selected at each campus, and a committee reviewed those nominees to choose districtwide honorees.
Recognizing acts of kindness
Each school has a $1,000 annual budget to reward one student per month, with grade-level teachers selecting recipients for gestures such as school-branded sweatshirts. Every campus also honors a staff member with a $1,000 stipend for modeling inclusivity.
At year’s end, district leaders name grand-prize winners: one student receives a $1,000 scholarship and one educator earns a $2,500 stipend. This year, the committee recognized two students and two staff members:
-
Bob Edmiston, Park City High School — staff winner
-
Ketzel Morales, Jeremy Ranch Elementary — staff winner
-
Easton Jones, ninth grade, Treasure Mountain Junior High — student winner
-
Shepherd Williams, fourth grade, Trailside Elementary — student winner
“As a district, we believe this is more than an award — it’s a reminder of who we are and who we strive to be,” Superintendent Lyndsay Huntsman said. “It celebrates those who break barriers, build belonging and champion a culture where everyone belongs.”
Joel Zarrow, president and CEO of the Park City Community Foundation, said the awards “allow the values of kindness and inclusivity to be lived and experienced across our community, shaping a more compassionate future for all our local kids.”
Strategic alignment
In a previous interview with TownLift, Zarrow shared that the Kindness Awards support the foundation’s new strategic plan, which centers on three pillars: community belonging, a sustainable future and a thriving workforce.
The foundation contributed $18,500 to fund the 2024-25 awards. District officials said the program will return next school year.
