Outdoor gear gets new life: Stio launches recycling events at Park Silly

PARK CITY, Utah — Outdoor apparel company Stio is bringing a series of clothing recycling events to Park City’s weekly market this summer as part of an effort to reduce waste in the fashion industry.

The company will host three “Second Turn” events at the Park Silly Sunday Market on June 8, July 20, and September 14, where consumers can purchase pre-owned gear or learn about Stio’s trade-in program.

The events come as a response to environmental concerns within the fashion industry, which consumes one-tenth of industrial water use globally and contributes to 8-10% of global carbon emissions.

The Second Turn concept reflects a growing movement toward circular commerce systems that keep usable products in circulation longer.

Stio will bring its Second Turn activities to the Park Silly Sunday Market, a weekly open-air event in Park City that features multiple vendors, on the three scheduled dates.

Through the Second Turn program, customers can receive up to 25% of the original retail value for qualifying used Stio items. However, the company emphasizes that no on-site trading will occur at the events themselves.

“Stio is not accepting trades at the Second Turn Events and they do not process second turn items in store,” according to the company’s disclaimer. “The process is outlined and completed on the Stio website.”

Interested customers must initiate the trade-in process online by filling out a form on Stio’s website. The company then sends a prepaid shipping label, and customers must mail their items to a processing center where they will be evaluated before store credit is issued.

The program accepts gently used Stio apparel that is in good condition and functions perfectly, with customers able to trade in up to ten items at once. After the processing center receives and evaluates the items, which typically takes 2-4 weeks, customers receive a unique redemption code that can be used for purchases online or at any Mountain Studio location.
