PARK CITY, Utah — In its first season as a new nonprofit, Nordic Combined USA (NCUSA) flew far and skied fast in 2024.
In Junior Nationals in Park City last season 40 athletes competed in Nordic Combined, the sport that combines cross-county skiing and ski jumping. Park City had 36 youth try Nordic Combined through Youth Sports Alliance’s Get Out And Play programs, and the 2025 World Championships Team included Olympian Stephen Schumann from the Park City Ski & Snowboard Team.
“What Nordic Combined USA has accomplished in such a short time is nothing short of incredible. They’ve brought energy, optimism, and structure back to a sport that needs all three.” Billy Demong, Olympic Gold Medalist and World Champion said in a statement. “It’s clear they’re in it for the athletes, for the future, and for the right reasons. That’s something I respect deeply.”
If not attending the upcoming dinner, NCUSA suggests that one clever way fans can help is to donate airline miles for coach travel, donate here. Now is a sensible time as they prepare to engage in coaching contracts for the upcoming season and the required licenses for coaches are $1,000. Additionally the specialized suit material for Olympics costs $2,000. National Team Transportation costs are $56,000 as the exceptionally long ski jump skis require custom modes of travel. For those reasons, including camps, comps hill fees and race registrations, sponsorship from businesses is being accepted for $10.000 and Team sponsorship is offered at $200,000.
“Leadership at Nordic Combined USA brings a fresh perspective, strong collaboration, and a commitment to progress and partnership,” Sophie Goldschmidt, President U.S. Ski & Snowboard said in a statement. “We have been impressed by how far they’ve come in a short time and are supportive of the direction the organization has taken.”
Since it achieved 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, NCUSA has secured a national team coaching partnership with Norway, raised more than $500,000 for the 2024-2025 season, gotten men into the top 30 and women into the top 10 at U.S. Nationals, World Championships, and World Cups.
A big picture goal of nordic combined is to hold on to inclusion in the Olympic Games. The International Ski Federation (FIS) is coming up with creative dynamics with different distances and disciplines along the way on race days to entertain spectators. This global community is rallying and turning challenge into momentum so the athletes could reach such goals and simultaneously plan for the Olympic season ahead.
NCUSA has been completely led and administered by volunteers since being incorporated in the summer of 2024, it has $170,000 raised from last year that’s been so well-managed it’s rolling over into this year and it’s aiming to raise $810,000 to support the 2025-2026 Olympic season.
In celebration of the season it’s hosting a special evening at Frog Bench Farms in Salt Lake City with Chef Buzz Willey of Edison House preparing a farm-to-table dinner for an intimate gathering of guests.
Meet the athletes and help support their upcoming season for a ticket price of $150 on July 31, at 6 p.m. RSVP here.
