SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — With summer’s increasingly dry conditions on the horizon, Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in effect across unincorporated areas of Summit County within the Park City Fire District. The order went into effect June 1 and will remain in place until further notice.
This includes residents in the Snyderville basin, Silver Summit and East Basin.
The restrictions come in response to record-dry vegetation and current weather patterns that increase the risk of wildfires across the region. Under Utah law, several fire-related activities are now prohibited in an effort to prevent accidental ignitions.
The banned activities include:
-
No open fires of any kind, except within established public facilities such as improved campgrounds or picnic areas — or in permanent fire pits at private residences where running water is present.
-
No smoking, unless within an enclosed vehicle, trailer, building, or in a cleared area devoid of dry vegetation.
-
No use of fireworks, tracer ammunition, or any other pyrotechnic devices, including exploding targets.
-
No cutting, welding, or grinding of metal near dry vegetation.
-
No operation of motorcycles, chainsaws, ATVs, or other small combustion engines unless equipped with an approved and working spark arrestor.
Violating these restrictions is a class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Summit County law enforcement will be responsible for enforcing the order.
Officials urge residents and visitors alike to exercise extreme caution and report any signs of wildfire activity immediately.
